چکیده
SEE PAGE 400 S afety, reliability, ease of use, and relatively low cost has placed echocardiography at the forefront of imaging modalities utilized in the assessment of cardiac function. Over the last 2 decades, techniques to detect pre-clinical cardiac dysfunction, such as the echocardiographic estimation of myocardial strain and strain rate, have been developed. Myocardial strain measures the deformation of tissues in response to stress (1), and speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) has emerged as the preferred method to estimate strain (2–4). In an effort to determine the clinical utility of STE, the prognostic importance of strain has been assessed in a variety of clinical scenarios. Global longitudinal strain (GLS), as derived from STE, has been shown to be an independent and superior predictor of mortality when compared with “traditional” measures of systolic function, such as left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction or wall motion score index (5,6). Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) represent a multisystem disorder associated with substantial cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Despite being an area of intensive research, the pathophysiology driving the disease process in patients with type 1 DM remains poorly understood, and the approach to management has generally followed

Reduced Serum Homocysteine Levels in Diabetic Patients
Background and Objectives: Type 2 diabetes is the most prevalent form of diabetes mellitus and is associated with a variety of complications. Homocysteine is an important independent risk factor for atherosclerotic diseases in both diabetic and non diabetic subjects. The association between these two is still unclear. The aim of this study was to assess the serum homocysteine levels in uncompli...

Background and Objective:Accurate diagnosis of CAD using noninvasive procedures is of great importance. The aim of the study is to assess diagnostic accuracy of myocardial perfusion imaging and compare it with exercise stress test in order to decipher a more accurate and cost-effective method for CAD detection. Materials and Methods:Of 430 consecutive patients suspected with CAD, 104 performed...
متن کاملRelationship between Quality of Life and Cardiorespiratory Endurance in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes
Background & Aims: Diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and impaired metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins. This disease is caused by defects in insulin secretion, insulin function, or both (1, 2). This chronic disease can have serious short-term and long-term consequences that affect the health and quality of life (QOL) of patients (3). Type 2 diabe...
متن کاملAutoimmune Thyroid Disorder in Children and Adolescents with Type I Diabetes Mellitus
Background Type one diabetes mellitus (Type 1 DM) is the most common type of diabetes in children and adolescents, arising through a complex interaction of immune, genetic and environmental factors. Autoimmune thyroid disease is the most frequent disorder associated with Type one diabetes mellitus. This study aimed to evaluate incidence of autoimmune thyroid disease in children and adolescents ...
متن کاملThe effect of twelve weeks of aerobic interval training on liver complications and cardiovascular risk factors in men with type 2 diabetes
Background & Aims: One of the main complications of type 2 diabetes is cardiovascular complications, which greatly increases mortality and reduces the quality of life of these patients. Complications of type 2 diabetes, which are known as cardiovascular risk factors, include dyslipidemia (1, 3) and high blood pressure, which are common diseases in type 2 diabetes (1, 4). Another complication of...
